When Rector Hopgood decided he was ready to retire from the Northeast Louisiana Telephone Company (NortheastTel) and renew his interests in travel and recreational activities, there was no question that the Norsworthy and George families would take over his interests in the company and guarantee that the company remained a locally owned business.

In the past 70 years in the history of NortheastTel, it has been owned and operated by the same families, with each new generation stepping in to learn and eventually lead. Today the company is lead by President and CEO Mike George (third generation), with his daughter Erin Jarrell as the Chief Financial Officer and his daughter Christine Sanders as the Director of Marketing. While William Norsworthy, who is the only remaining second generation owner, and Doug George, fourth generation, retain their interests in the company as well.

Although the owners and employees of NortheastTel will feel the lack of Mr. Hopgood’s daily presence, they know that his impact on the Telephone Company and community will continue. “Rector has devoted his entire life to the company, and he has more than earned the right to enjoy his retirement,” stated Mr. George.
